2024 “Celebrating Freedom”
Again this year we are developing an electrifying
COMMUNITY CELEBRATION!
Greetings,
We are so excited to be hosting our 3rd annual JUNETEENTH COMMUNITY CELEBRATION this year! God has given us this vision for our community, and it’s been a blessing in many ways. The community has been so supportive and for that we are grateful.
Our theme for this year’s celebration is “CELEBRATING FREEDOM”. We’re starting off this year with a Juneteenth community picnic at upper Moorman Park, Quincy, on June 8th starting at Noon. Everyone is invited. We will be sending out letters to all the area churches in March encouraging everyone to participate.
On June 14th, our Juneteenth Community Gala will be held at the Oakley-Lindsay Center of Quincy. We will kick it off with a social hour from 5-6 pm, dinner and program from 6-7pm, and live band starts at 7:30. This year we are delighted to have an awesome energetic band from Memphis, TN known as the PC Band (Perfect Combination). There will be a scrumptious dinner by JJ’s catering, along with a wonderful Juneteenth program. The color theme is White and Gold, a night and time to shine, so we encourage you to get your picture taken at the photo booth presented by Mr. Mark Tyler.
June 15th will be our annual community Juneteenth Festival at WASHINGTON PARK, downtown Quincy, from 1 to 8:30 p.m. We are moving to this location for space and more community participation. This will consist of all types of food vendors, local business vendors, informational vendors. We will have a special appearance by the Buffalo Soldiers Biker group from St. Louis and Kansas City chapters. There will be tons of kid’s activities including bounce houses, Petting Zoo, Puttin’ on the Hits, cake walk, and much more. Back by popular demand, the Mid MO High Steppers dance troupe, all the way from Columbia, Missouri will be performing and special appearance by our own Quincy native country singer Butch “Dubari” Sprague all the way from Los Angeles, CA. Our final band, the gifted, energetic artist from Chicago, IL, the Sheryl Youngblood Blues band, will keep you engaged and entertained.
June 16th VOICES OF JUNETEENTH Celebrating Freedom Community Choir concert will be held at Bethel Assembly of God Church starting at 2:30 p.m. This wonderful event will feature guest directors Ms. Koretta Sykes and Mr. Marquis Smith. For those who wish to sign up to sing in the choir, visit this website: www.celebrateqcyjuneteenth.com.
